If you are a faculty or exempt professional staff member at IU Columbus, you are paid monthly on the last working day of the month with the exception of December, when checks are paid on the first working day in January.

If you are a new employee whose hire date occurs in the first half of the month, you will receive your first paycheck on the last working day of the month of hire. If you are hired after the middle of the month and if payroll has already closed for the current month, you will receive your first paycheck on the last working day of the following month.

How does it work?

  • A clear understanding of expectations for all staff roles
  • Recurring two-way conversations between staff and leaders
  • Annual growth and development plans for every staff member
  • Consistent annual performance conversations with every staff member

All Indiana University (including IU Indianapolis) students, faculty and staff are required to have a COVID-19 vaccine and be fully vaccinated or have an approved exemption. This requirement is part of IU’s ongoing successful response to and management of the COVID-19 pandemic on its campuses and will allow the university to lift most restrictions on masking and physical distancing.

A person is considered fully vaccinated two weeks after having all doses of a vaccine (2 doses for Pfizer, Moderna; 1 dose for Johnson & Johnson).

If you have questions about receiving a COVID-19 vaccine, exemptions or know you won't be fully vaccinated before returning to campus, just let us know.

Please feel free to reach out to vaxreq@iu.edu or 812-855-4848.

How to report your COVID-19 vaccine

All current students, faculty and staff will use IU’s COVID-19 vaccine report form to attest that they are vaccinated and report all doses of your vaccine. Incoming students should plan to complete the self-report form once have created their IU email account.

How to report your COVID-19 booster

All current students, faculty and staff may voluntarily report their COVID-19 booster to IU using the COVID-19 vaccine report form. Students who report their booster will receive $20 in Crimson Cash. It takes 5-7 days for the Crimson cash to appear on your card.

You will need to have your CDC vaccination card with you when reporting your booster.

Exemption Request Process

Approved exemptions include:

  1. Religious exemptions.
  2. Ethical exemptions.
  3. Medical exemptions with documentation from your provider of an allergy to the COVID-19 vaccines or their components.
  4. Medical deferrals for the following circumstances with a note from your provider:
    1. Active pregnancy or active breastfeeding only if the provider is requesting an exemption. The exemption lasts only until you're no longer actively pregnant or actively breastfeeding. Pregnancy and breastfeeding are not contraindications for vaccination.
    2. Immunocompromised individuals only with provider request for an exemption and only for those who have recent (within the past 3-6 months) hematopoietic or solid organ transplant, or on active treatment with Rituximab within the past 3-6 months.
    3. Have received COVID-specific monoclonal antibodies in the past 90 days.
  5. An online program exemption for students who are in a 100% online program with no on-campus component. This must be an online program; not simply taking all online classes.

You can request an exemption using the online request form. IU’s Medical Response Team, among other designated IU leaders, will promptly review exemption requests, responding within five business days.

If you're arriving from an international location

Students, scholars, faculty and staff arriving from an international location may not have access to a COVID-19 vaccine in their current location and may not be able to be fully vaccinated before arriving on campus.

Individuals in this situation should plan to receive a COVID-19 vaccine upon their arrival in the U.S. They can continue to participate in orientation, classes and other activities as they work toward becoming fully vaccinated.

COVID-19 vaccines authorized by the FDA and recommended by the World Health Organization will meet IU's requirement. If you've already received a vaccine that is not one authorized/recommended by either of these organizations, you’ll need to receive one that is. There are no known safety issues at this time with receiving an FDA-authorized vaccine after receiving one that has not yet been authorized/recommended.

New employees will be provided with information regarding Indiana University's COVID-19 vaccine policy, which includes the opportunity to request an exemption. To learn more, view our COVID-19 vaccine information page.

Preventive Care

Our greatest wealth is our health.

Preventive care includes routine well exams, screenings, and immunizations intended to prevent or avoid illness or other health problems. People who see their doctor regularly and have routine screenings are more likely to receive an early diagnosis if they develop a medical condition, and this contributes to better outcomes and a longer lifespan. Routine screenings also allow physicians to compare test results over time, increasing the chances that a potential problem can be prevented by interventions like medications or lifestyle changes.

All IU medical plans cover in-network preventive care at 100%, meaning you can receive these and many other services through your primary care provider with no out-of-pocket costs:

  • Wellness exams and routine immunizations
  • Labs for cholesterol, TB, fasting blood sugar and A1C, and STIs
  • Screening tests such as mammograms, bone density testing, PSA, colonoscopies, and cancer screenings
  • Women’s health services including oral contraceptives, IUDs, hormone implants, injections, pap smears, and sterilization

Some preventive services have age or quantity limits, so be sure to check with your primary care provider or insurance provider, or find more information for your medical plan here.

What is Public Student Loan Forgiveness?

The PSLF Program forgives the remaining balance on your Direct Loans after you have made 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan while working full-time for a qualifying employer.

Determine if you qualify by visiting the Federal Student Aid website.

Why and When to Submit the PSLF Form?

To help you track your progress toward qualifying for PSLF, we recommend that you submit the PSLF form annually or when you change employers. It will make it much easier once you are ready to apply for forgiveness after 10 years of employment in public service!

Submitting the form annually will let us track and verify how many qualifying payments you make while working full-time for a qualifying employer, among other PSLF eligibility requirements.

If you do not submit the PSLF form with your employment certification annually, then at the time you apply for forgiveness, you will be required to submit employment certification for each employer you worked for while making the required 120 qualifying monthly payments.

How do I complete the employer section of the PSLF process?

  1. FedLoan Servicing recommends that you initiate your PSLF application at studentaid.gov
  2. Complete page 1 of the application WITHOUT including your Social Security Number. For security purposes, please include your University ID instead to properly identify you in the system. Payroll will update that field to reflect your Social Security Number.
  3. Send the form to payroll@iupui.edu and be sure to include your full legal name and University ID, and note that your home campus is IU Columbus.
  4. Since this document contains critical information, upon completion you will receive an email notification from Slashtmp IU including a password protected link to retrieve the completed form. Another email will follow including the password required to obtain the secure document.

Please Note: Please allow five working days for IU Indianapolis Payroll to complete processing.

What do I do once IUPUI Payroll returns the completed form?

Once the employer portion of the PSLF form is completed and returned (Above Steps 1-4), you can send it to FedLoan Servicing* or via mail or fax as listed below.

You may mail the form to this address:

U.S. Department of Education
FedLoan Servicing
P.O. Box 69184
Harrisburg, PA 17106-9184

You may also fax your PSLF form to 717-720-1628.

If FedLoan Servicing is already your servicer, you may upload your PSLF form on FedLoan Servicing's website.

*FedLoan Servicing, one of the federal loan servicers, administers the PSLF Program on our behalf.

¡Please be aware that the U.S Department of Education will reject forms sent without a physical (wet) signature!
